Samajwadi Party claims rising support ahead of UP elections

Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Ravidas Mehrotra has claimed that a political wave is forming in favor of the party ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Mehrotra asserted that the public is seeking change and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to incite social conflict between Dalits, backward classes, and upper castes to distract voters from issues like inflation and unemployment.

Addressing recent political shifts, Mehrotra criticized Jayant Chaudhary for breaking his alliance with the SP to side with the BJP. He argued that political alliances should be maintained for their full term and suggested that Chaudhary should contest elections directly if he is confident in his popularity.

Furthermore, Mehrotra responded to demands for an apology from Akhilesh Yadav by accusing the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) of acting as a ‘B-team’ for the BJP. He also raised concerns regarding rising sugar prices, attributing the shortage and increased costs to the diversion of sugarcane toward ethanol production.
