Samajwadi Party leaders clash during Gorakhpur press conference
A Samajwadi Party (SP) press conference in Gorakhpur was disrupted on Saturday following a physical altercation between supporters of two party members. The incident occurred at the Journalists Press Club during a briefing for the party’s ‘Loktantra Bachao Saptah’ campaign.
The dispute reportedly began when Anshuman Singh, who is seeking an SP ticket for the Gorakhpur Rural Assembly constituency for the 2027 elections, arrived at the venue and sought seating. The argument escalated into a scuffle, during which Nagina Sahani, a former district president, was allegedly slapped by Kamlesh Singh, the son of Anshuman Singh.
Following the clash, Sahani accused Singh’s supporters of assault, intimidation, and bringing illegal weapons into the venue. Anshuman Singh denied the allegations, claiming the incident was being used by political rivals to tarnish his reputation. SP district president Brijesh Gautam stated that the matter would be reported to party president Akhilesh Yadav for further action.
