Samajwadi Party leaders oppose Uniform Civil Code

Leaders of the Samajwadi Party (SP) have expressed strong opposition to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using the issue to polarize the nation along religious lines. SP leader ST Hasan stated that the BJP lacks solutions for inflation, employment, or farmers' issues and is instead attempting to disrupt the social atmosphere through the UCC.

Hasan noted that religious groups, including Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians, have their own distinct religious laws. Additionally, SP MP Awadhesh Prasad suggested that the government is using statements regarding the UCC to distract the public from unfulfilled promises, such as women's reservation and the ‘one nation-one election’ concept.

Representing the Congress party, spokesperson Surendra Rajput supported the SP's stance, arguing that the UCC should be discussed in Parliament for the entire country rather than being implemented on a state-by-state basis. He claimed that state-specific implementation contradicts the principle of ‘one law and one symbol’ and serves to divide the nation.
