Samaná tourism meeting focuses on cruise growth and sustainable development

The XI Annual Tourism Development Meeting for Samaná was held to address the province's evolving tourism landscape, specifically focusing on converting increased cruise ship traffic into broader economic benefits. Organized by the Samaná Tourism Cluster (CTS) and the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies of Samaná (AHETSA), with support from the Ministry of Tourism, the event aimed to ensure that the growth in maritime arrivals translates into local employment, business opportunities, and enhanced passenger experiences.

With the upcoming opening of a new cruise terminal in Arroyo Barril and the operation of Samaná Bayport, industry leaders emphasized the need to extend economic value beyond the ports to include local restaurants, guides, transporters, and artisans. Discussions also centered on sustainable development, environmental protection of coastal ecosystems, and infrastructure improvements such as road connectivity and waste management. The forum highlighted plans for hotel expansions and community-based tourism projects intended to drive growth in areas including Las Terrenas, Las Galeras, and Santa Bárbara de Samaná.
