Samanta Schweblin awarded Premio Malaparte in Capri
Argentine writer Samanta Schweblin has been awarded the prestigious Premio Malaparte, to be presented in Capri in early October 2026. The selection marks a notable shift for the award, as the jury has chosen to honor Schweblin for her mastery of short stories rather than the traditional long-form novel.
Schweblin, who currently resides in Berlin, noted her connection to the Argentine tradition of short story writers. She described the genre as an intense medium that allows her to explore themes of fear, anxiety, and human fragility. The award is supported by the Campania Region and the Fondazione Ferrarelle ETS.
Organizers, including curator Gabriella Buontempo and Michele Pontecorvo Ricciardi, emphasized that the choice aims to engage younger readers and reflect contemporary reading habits. The ceremony will take place at the Certosa di San Giacomo in Capri.
