Samarate declares civic mourning for Federico Venco, 36, killed while aiding a woman

Federico Venco, a 36‑year‑old resident of the San Macario district of Samarate, died in Somma Lombardo after being struck by the car of a victim’s former partner while trying to help a woman in distress. The municipal council, chaired by Mayor Alessandro Ferrazzi, voted unanimously to proclaim a day of civic mourning for Venco. His body remains with the judicial authorities pending investigation, and a funeral date has not yet been set.

The incident has prompted widespread grief in Samarate, with residents calling for official recognition of Venco’s altruistic act. Police have arrested 44‑year‑old Mirko Bertellini on charges of voluntary homicide. Venco was known for his passion for mountaineering, his involvement with the local CAI, and his plans to open an alpine refuge.
