Samastipur police arrest four following viral video of minor girl's harassment

Police in Samastipur, Bihar, have arrested four individuals following the viral spread of a video showing the alleged harassment of a minor girl. The incident reportedly took place on September 15 near the Jagatsinghpur dam bypass road in the Karpurigram police station area.

According to Samastipur Superintendent of Police Arvind Pratap Singh, the video was identified through social media monitoring. The footage shows a group of youths surrounding the girl, pulling her hair, and engaging in indecent behavior. The arrested suspects have been identified as Vikas Kumar, Rahul Kumar, Rambabu Sahni, and Awadhesh Paswan. They face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the POCSO Act, and the IT Act.

The incident has sparked significant political debate in Bihar. Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav criticized the state government, questioning the law and order situation and accusing officials of attempting to dismiss such cases as ‘isolated incidents’. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary commented on the role of social media ‘reels’ in the incident, stating that the perpetrator's attempt to create content led to his capture by police.
