Samchandang Pharm's Latazt exceeds 11% market share in Korea
Samchandang Pharm announced that its glaucoma treatment, Latazt (latanoprost) ophthalmic solution, has surpassed an 11% market share in the South Korean preservative-free single-use latanoprost market. According to UBIST market research data, the product's share rose from 3.1% in March 2025 to 11.0% by August 2026. In the hospital and clinic channel, its share increased from 4.8% to 14.2% during the same period.
The South Korean latanoprost single-use market has grown approximately 2.7 times since 2021, reaching 36 billion KRW. This growth is driven by a shift from multi-dose products to preservative-free single-use formulations, as patients require long-term daily application.
Latazt is a generic product developed following the expiration of the original drug's patent. The company conducted global Phase 3 clinical trials involving 170 patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension, confirming non-inferiority to the original medication by reducing average intraocular pressure from 24.4 mmHg to 16.6 mmHg. Samchandang Pharm also supplies the finished product to global pharmaceutical companies, with the same product being sold under original brands in Europe.
