Global water and sanitation infrastructure updates

Various regions are implementing or facing challenges regarding water and sanitation infrastructure. In Argentina, Sameep is expanding sewage connections to 650 families in Isla del Cerrito and performing preventive maintenance at the El Pintado plant to combat low river levels in the Bermejo River.

In Mexico, DAPAS is working to separate storm and sanitary drainage in the Valles River to prevent flooding. Meanwhile, in Veracruz, the refusal of Grupo MAS to participate in a federal stimulus program has reportedly blocked 62 million pesos intended for water and sanitation infrastructure, including the Olmeca treatment plant.

In Peru, Piura faces a water crisis due to high salinity in approximately 90% of its wells and aging infrastructure, necessitating urgent expansion of the Curumuy treatment plant. Additionally, Sedapar has scheduled water service interruptions in Arequipa for reservoir maintenance.

Other regional updates include Emapa in Ecuador working to reduce water loss from illegal connections, and Emasa in Málaga, Spain, awarding a contract to improve the efficiency of the El Atabal water treatment plant, aiming to reduce raw water extraction by 12.5%.
