Sami Khedira linked to co‑assistant role under José Mourinho at Real Madrid

Former Germany midfielder and 2014 World Cup winner Sami Khedira is being reported as a candidate for the co‑assistant coach position at Real Madrid, working with newly appointed head coach José Mourinho. The Athletic and Marca cite the rumor, noting that Mourinho previously coached Khedira at the club in 2010.

Khedira, who retired from playing in 2021 and currently works as a pundit for DAZN and a former adviser at VfB Stuttgart, has not confirmed the offer. He has described Mourinho as his “Ziehvater” (father figure). Former teammate Mats Hummels said Khedira could “learn a lot” in the role, adding that it would be valuable for his future career.

Another former Real Madrid defender, Pepe, has dismissed the speculation as social‑media chatter. No official statement from Real Madrid or Mourinho has been released.
