Sami Robotics advances modular platform for commercial crop harvesting
Canadian robotics company Sami is transitioning its multifunctional agricultural platform from field trials toward commercial application. The system, known as SAMI (Système Agricole Multifonctionnel Intelligent), is designed to address labor-intensive harvesting tasks through a modular approach.
Rather than requiring separate machines for different crops, the platform utilizes interchangeable end effectors, similar to how a tractor uses different implements. While initially developed to tackle the difficult harvesting of broccoli, the company's development roadmap has expanded to include Romaine lettuce and iceberg lettuce, with plans for cauliflower and other crops in the future. The platform uses cameras to map fields and adapt to various configurations, employing robotic arms to execute tasks.
