Samir Handanovic explains departure from Inter Milan

Samir Handanovic has departed Inter Milan after 14 years with the club, where he served as a goalkeeper, captain, and youth coach. The former captain revealed that his departure stemmed from a disagreement regarding a proposed role coaching the Primavera (youth) team.

Handanovic stated he was willing to accept the position but requested a specific technical structure. He opposed the practice of training a youth squad during the week only to change the lineup during matches to accommodate players from the Under 23 team playing in Serie C. He argued that if players are not skilled enough for Serie C, they should not be rotated into the Primavera squad, as it disrupts the technical development and consistency of the youth group.

Reflecting on his tenure, Handanovic credited Luciano Spalletti with building the essential foundations of the team's recent success, while noting that Antonio Conte subsequently added the necessary mentality and tactical organization to achieve titles. He also praised Simone Inzaghi for his ability to unlock the creativity of the squad's strongest players.
