Sammy Hagar names ‘Highway to Hell’ as favorite AC/DC album
In a recent interview with the Bon Scott Estate, musician Sammy Hagar expressed his deep admiration for the late AC/DC vocalist Bon Scott, naming ‘Highway to Hell’ as his favorite AC/DC album. Hagar described the record as a ‘masterpiece of rock ’n’ roll’ and praised the title track as one of the greatest songs ever written.
Hagar reflected on Scott’s unique vocal style, noting that the singer often sounded as if he were on the verge of his voice cracking, which he likened to a race car driving on the edge of control.
Additionally, Hagar shared anecdotes regarding AC/DC’s reputation for overshadowing other performers. He recalled witnessing the band open for his former bandmate Ronnie Montrose in San Jose, California, noting that AC/DC’s high-energy performance made it difficult for the headlining act to follow. Hagar stated that during his time with Van Halen, the band would decline festival offers involving AC/DC to avoid performing immediately before or after them.
