Sammy Smith wins two races at Talladega Superspeedway

Sammy Smith achieved a milestone weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, securing victories in both the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.

In the Friday Love’s RV Stop 225, Smith drove the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet to his first career Truck Series win in just his 11th start. After leading a race-high 21 laps, Smith navigated a chaotic overtime finish involving five caution periods and multiple wrecks to win by 0.091 seconds over Tyler Ankrum. The race was marked by significant mechanical attrition, including several tire failures.

Smith followed this performance on Saturday by winning The Progress Group 250 in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. Driving for JR Motorsports, he executed a last-lap pass on teammate Carson Kvapil, aided by a push from Jesse Love, to win by 0.084 seconds. This victory marks his fourth career win in the series.

Earlier in the weekend, Smith announced he will move to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series full-time in 2027, driving for TRICON Garage.
