Samos archaeological sites to be unified under new masterplan

The Greek Ministry of Culture has introduced a masterplan to protect, highlight, and functionally unify the archaeological sites and monumental units of Pythagoreio on Samos. As one of the most significant archaeological areas in the Eastern Aegean, the site includes the ancient city, its relationship with the modern settlement, the port, walls, public buildings, religious facilities, hydraulic works, and necropolises.

Pythagoreio and the Heraion are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni stated that the protection of these monuments is a priority due to their unique historical and archaeological importance. The plan aims to create a cohesive network of monuments, paths, public spaces, and digital tour applications to enhance the cultural landscape.
