Samothrace hosts 19th Journalism Conference
The 19th Journalism Conference is being held on the island of Samothrace, bringing together journalists, academics, and media representatives to discuss the evolving role of information in a period of significant change.
Co-organized by the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and the Panhellenic Federation of Editors' Associations, the event features 45 speakers and 150 journalists. Key themes include the state of the Greek language in journalism and public discourse, the role of diaspora media, the challenges facing border schools, and the necessity of informed reporting on the environmental crisis.
Discussions have highlighted concerns regarding the impoverishment of journalistic language, with participants emphasizing that linguistic precision is essential for accurately describing reality. The conference also addresses the responsibility of the media toward society and the need for evidence-based reporting that avoids exaggeration.
