Sampang Police arrest man for alleged neighbor murder

A 79-year-old man, identified as BR, has been arrested by the Sampang Police following the alleged murder of his neighbor in Sokobanah, Sampang. The victim, a 72-year-old farmer named NM, died on September 30, 2026, after being struck in the jaw with an iron crowbar.

The incident occurred around 07:00 WIB at the victim's goat pen. According to Sampang Police Chief AKBP Anang Hardiyanto, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim while he was tending to his livestock. Although the victim received medical attention at a local health center, he passed away approximately three hours after the assault.

Police have secured the iron crowbar used in the attack as evidence. Investigators are currently looking into a possible motive of revenge. The suspect faces charges under Article 459 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of death, life imprisonment, or up to 20 years in prison.
