Sampdoria intensifies head‑coach hunt as former Anderlecht director leads recruitment

Sampdoria has continued its search for a permanent head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season. Sporting director Jesper Fredberg, who recently left Anderlecht, is overseeing the process. The club has already reshaped its technical staff, appointing Americo Branco as director of sport and promoting Lorenzo Ariaudo to technical director, while interim manager Attilio Lombardo remains in charge until a new appointment is made.

Among the names being considered are Italian candidates, with fans hoping for seasoned coaches such as Claudio Ranieri or Beppe Iachini, though neither is currently on the club’s radar. Fredberg has also brought in former Anderlecht communications chief Mathias Declercq to support the restructuring and has been linked to the possible recruitment of Belgian midfielder Yari Verschaeren, indicating a broader strategy to strengthen the organization beyond the coaching role.

The club finished 13th in Serie B this season and is looking to improve its standing, prompting an active recruitment drive that includes both domestic and international expertise.
