Sampdoria seeks new head coach as director Fredberg evaluates multiple candidates

Italian club Sampdoria, currently competing in Serie B after finishing 17th this season, is searching for a new head coach to mount a promotion push. Director of sport Jesper Fredberg, appointed in July, is reviewing several options. Agent Paolo Busardò has put forward former Sampdoria forward Davide Possanzini, who previously guided Mantova from Serie C to Serie B, as a possible Italian appointment.

Italian media also report that Fredberg is considering ex‑Anderlecht midfielder Mark Van Bommel, who has been out of work for two years and is said to demand a salary of around €4 million per year, as well as Spanish coach Julio Velazquez of Levski Sofia, who recently led the Bulgarian side to a league title. The club hopes a strong coaching choice will help return Sampdoria to Serie A after a period of poor performances.
