Samsø Rederi faces potential 650,000 DKK monthly budget deficit
Samsø Rederi, a municipality-owned ferry operator, is facing a significant financial crisis as fixed-price diesel agreements are set to expire. The company could face a budget deficit of up to 650,000 DKK per month, totaling approximately 7.2 million DKK for the upcoming budget year.
Mayor Per Urban Olsen has identified four potential measures to address the shortfall: seeking state support, reducing sailing speeds, increasing ticket prices, or cutting the number of departures. The mayor described the situation as a difficult choice between undesirable options, noting that higher prices and fewer services could negatively impact the island, which relies heavily on more than 300,000 annual tourists.
