Samson Adamu confirmed as CAF General Secretary

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed Samson Adamu as its substantive General Secretary. Adamu becomes the first Nigerian to hold this top administrative position in the organization’s 70-year history since its founding in 1957.

Adamu had been serving in an acting capacity since March 29, 2026, following the resignation of Swiss-Congolese administrator Véron Mosengo-Omba. Before his elevation, Adamu held several strategic roles within CAF, including Director of Competitions and Director of Tournaments and Events. In his new role, he will oversee day-to-day administration, legal affairs, and the implementation of executive committee decisions.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has congratulated Adamu, describing the appointment as a significant milestone. NFF Acting General Secretary Emmanuel Ikpeme praised Adamu as a knowledgeable and well-rounded administrator, pledging the federation's full support.
