Samson Deen urges Ghana's political parties to stop politicizing sports
Samson Deen, President of the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana, has called on the country’s two major political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to cease the politicization of sports administration.
Speaking at a Team Ghana sponsorship event, Deen warned that ongoing political rivalries and disputes are discouraging corporate sponsors from investing in the sector. He argued that investors are unlikely to “dump money into confusion” and that political divisions are undermining the future of young athletes.
Deen proposed the creation of a wider forum involving political parties and sports stakeholders to address systemic challenges. He also cautioned against the practice of targeting sports officials based on their previous government affiliations, noting that such partisan scrutiny could eventually affect officials appointed by any administration.
