Samson Fountain in České Budějovice to undergo repairs

The Samson Fountain, a 300-year-old monument in the center of České Budějovice, is scheduled to undergo repairs and winter preparation starting October 1. The maintenance work, which is expected to last approximately three weeks, will be conducted by the water management company ČEVAK.

In addition to standard winterization procedures—such as draining the main basin, cleaning, and installing recirculation equipment to prevent freezing—the project includes significant repairs to the surrounding pebble paving. An expert assessment determined that nearly 200 square meters of the paving are in critical condition, with many stones either damaged or missing. Workers will dismantle the paving, sort the stones, and reuse those in good condition while replacing damaged pieces with new ones of the same type.

The work will be carried out in two stages to ensure that half of the fountain remains accessible to the public at all times. Other maintenance tasks include repairing benches and inspecting the monument's lighting.
