Samsun murder suspect arrested in Trabzon after robbery

A murder investigation in Samsun’s Canik district was triggered when relatives noticed the lights in the home of 70-year-old Necmettin Uzun had been left on for an unusually long time. Uzun, who made a living collecting paper, typically turned his lights on and off quickly to save on electricity.

Upon entering the home, relatives discovered thick smoke caused by food burning on a stove, which initially led them to believe there was a fire. However, police discovered that Uzun had been brutally murdered, having sustained multiple stab wounds and being struck with a wooden stool.

Authorities identified 59-year-old Ertan B. as the suspect. The suspect attempted to evade capture by dyeing his hair and beard to change his appearance. Following a coordinated effort between Samsun and Trabzon police departments, Ertan B. was apprehended in Trabzon.

While the suspect claimed the encounter involved harassment, investigators determined the motive was robbery after the suspect followed Uzun from a restaurant to steal his wallet. Ertan B., who has a significant criminal record including previous charges for robbery and theft, has been arrested and sent to Samsun T Type Closed Prison.
