Samsun City Hospital initiates pulsed field ablation for cardiac arrhythmias

Samsun City Hospital in Turkey has begun using pulsed field ablation (PFA), a novel electrical‑field based technique, to treat heart rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation. Unlike traditional heat‑ or cold‑based ablation, PFA targets only diseased cardiac tissue, sparing surrounding structures and reducing procedure time and complication risk.

The first patient, 48‑year‑old Ilker Topkara, who had suffered five years of palpitations, was successfully treated by the hospital’s electrophysiology team led by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Beğenç Taşcanov and Doç. Dr. Rüstem Yılmaz. The team highlighted the method’s safety and its significance for patients in the Black Sea region, who can now receive advanced cardiac care locally.

Hospital officials said the rollout aligns with international standards and aims to expand access to cutting‑edge arrhythmia therapy throughout the region.
