Samsun court hears case of man accused of killing his father
The first hearing of a case involving Doğancan Yavuz, who is accused of killing his father, İbrahim Yavuz, took place at the Samsun 1st High Criminal Court. The incident occurred on May 11 in the Kadamut neighborhood of the İlkadım district, where Yavuz allegedly shot his father eight times with a licensed handgun following an argument.
During the proceedings, Yavuz testified that his father frequently subjected both him and his mother to physical and psychological violence. He claimed his mother suffered a partial paralysis due to the stress caused by his father's behavior. Yavuz stated that during the fatal confrontation, his father approached him while wielding a knife, prompting him to fire his weapon.
Witness testimony from the defendant's mother, Güner Yavuz, supported claims of domestic instability. She stated that her husband often used verbal abuse and violence when consuming alcohol and noted that he had approached her with a knife during the dispute. She informed the court that she would not file a complaint against her son, stating, “He was looking at me.”
The court has requested a report from the Forensic Medicine 4th Specialized Board to determine if the defendant acted in a state of temporary insanity.
