Samsun cultural heritage: Lost Mevlevihane, ship, and prayer site

In the Sakin Şehir program hosted by Recep Yazgan, poet and writer Adnan İpekdal discussed three significant historical and cultural legacies of Samsun that have largely disappeared from the city's memory.

The first is the Samsun Mevlevihane, a spiritual and cultural center that was active in the mid-19th century. Records from the Konya Mevlânâ Museum indicate the dervish lodge was rebuilt in 1862, but it was severely damaged during the Great Samsun Fire of 1869 and eventually lost due to economic constraints. İpekdal called upon local authorities, specifically Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Halit Doğan, to revive this center.

The discussion also highlighted the Tirimüjgan ship, which met a tragic end in the waters off Bafra, and the Sultan Abdülaziz Namazgâh, a prayer site whose marble inscription currently remains in a museum warehouse. İpekdal emphasized the importance of researching and preserving these historical assets to pass them on to future generations.
