Samsun City Hospital successfully removes 30cm tumor from 7-year-old

Medical teams at Samsun City Hospital successfully treated a 7-year-old boy, Harun Çelik, who was diagnosed with a Wilms tumor (nephroblastoma). The tumor was initially too large to operate on, measuring approximately 20 to 30 centimeters and occupying most of the abdominal cavity.

Following a six-week course of chemotherapy, the tumor significantly regressed to a size of approximately 6 to 10 centimeters. This reduction allowed surgeons to perform a successful operation to completely remove the mass. Following the surgery, the patient underwent radiotherapy and is continuing a scheduled course of chemotherapy, which is expected to last approximately 25 weeks.

The procedure was managed through a multidisciplinary approach involving the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Clinic, led by Prof. Dr. Zuhal Keskin, and the Pediatric Surgery Clinic, including Dr. Serap Samut Bülbül and Ahmet Saraç.
