Samsun driver fined 120,000 lira for killing two 13‑year‑old girls

On 30 September 2025 a traffic collision occurred at the Gar intersection on Atatürk Boulevard in Samsun's Ilkadım district. Sultan Ahmet Yılmaz, 20, was driving a van (plate 55 ADN 702) when it struck two 13‑year‑old schoolgirls, Rabia Kaynar and Elifnaz Aslan, who were crossing against a red light. Both children died despite emergency treatment at Gazi State Hospital. Police detained Yılmaz, who spent about three months in custody before being released under judicial control.

A forensic report concluded the girls were primarily at fault for crossing on red, while the driver was secondary at fault. The Samsun 4th Heavy Penal Court convicted Yılmaz of negligent homicide, sentencing him to four years’ imprisonment, reduced to three years and four months due to his clean record, and converted the custodial term into a fine of 120,000 Turkish lira.
