Samsun Fishermen Ready for September 1 Fishing Season

Fishermen in Turkey’s Black Sea port of Samsun are completing boat maintenance and net repairs ahead of the September 1 opening of the commercial fishing season. The preparations, which began about four months ago, include engine overhauls, repainting vessels and fixing torn nets.

Samsun Sea Products Hunters Producers Association president Cemal Malkoç said the end of the April 15 fishing ban has brought positive signals for the palamut (Atlantic mackerel) run, and the crew expects a plentiful catch. Fisherman Mustafa Malkoç confirmed that all gear is being readied so the fleet can set out on September 1.
