Samsun hosts strategy workshop for individuals with Down syndrome

A strategy workshop for individuals with Down syndrome was held in Samsun to improve quality of life, support independent living, and address the needs of families. Organized under the auspices of the Samsun Governorship, the event was a collaboration between the Samsun Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services and the Samsun Metropolitan Municipality.

The workshop addressed key areas including health, education, employment, and social participation. Participants included public institutions, academics, experts, non-governmental organizations, and families. Eight working groups were established to evaluate needs regarding early intervention, participation in independent living, and lifelong support processes.

Kemal Gümrükçü, the Samsun Provincial Director of Family and Social Services, emphasized the importance of early childhood support and the necessity of providing families with access to accurate information and sustainable support mechanisms. The goal of the workshop is to develop concrete, rights-based, and inclusive solutions to strengthen coordination between institutions and improve services throughout the province.
