Samsun housing cooperative lawyer disputes claims of construction delays

Ahmet Gürel, the lawyer for the S. S. 19 Mayıs Kent Konut Yapı Kooperatifi, has issued a statement regarding a stalled 197-unit housing project in Samsun, Turkey. The statement follows claims from approximately 70-80 families who allege they cannot receive their homes due to a dispute between the cooperative and the contractor.

While some families claimed the construction stopped because the cooperative denied the contractor sales authority, Gürel denied this, asserting that the contractor failed to meet contractual obligations. He cited a finalized decision from the Samsun Civil Court of First Instance to support the termination of the contract.

According to the lawyer, the Atakum Municipality halted construction activities on November 8, 2023, and February 6, 2024, due to project irregularities and unpaid fees to the building inspection firm. Gürel further alleged that the contractor engaged in unfair practices, including selling the same units to multiple people and failing to provide titles for previous projects.
