Samsun initiates Gülsan Industrial Site and Mert River urban renewal

Urban development and reclamation projects are underway in the Canik district of Samsun, Turkey. Key initiatives include the transformation of the Gülsan Industrial Site and the reclamation of the Mert River to improve urban structure and quality of life.

As part of the Gülsan transformation, Samsun Metropolitan Municipality has concluded a design competition covering a 30-hectare area. The project aims to integrate a service building, a cultural center, and a mosque into a unified urban space. The competition evaluated architectural innovation, urban integrity, and contributions to city identity, resulting in three awards and four honorable mentions.

Local officials, including Canik Mayor İbrahim Sandıkçı and SAMSİAD Chairman Süleyman Ferşat Eldemir, have emphasized the importance of collaborative planning between public institutions and the business community to enhance the region's economic activity and city identity.
