Samsun launches urban transformation project and disaster risk planning

Authorities in Samsun have launched the Kadıköy Urban Transformation Project to address high-risk areas in the İlkadım district. The project, authorized by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, covers approximately 79.53 hectares across several neighborhoods. The development is planned in five stages and aims to create 1,925 residential units and 179 commercial units, totaling 2,104 independent sections.

To facilitate the process, a dedicated contact office has been established to ensure transparency and voluntary consensus with residents. Early stages of the project have seen high rates of agreement among citizens, with the first three stages reaching 100% consensus.

In a separate but related effort to improve regional safety, officials have also commenced work on the Samsun Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Plan (İRAP) for the 2027-2031 period. Led by Governor Orhan Tavlı, the initiative focuses on strategic planning to mitigate the impact of various natural disasters, including earthquakes, floods, fires, and landslides, shifting the focus from post-disaster recovery to proactive prevention.
