Samsun shooting: Man arrested for killing uncle during tree dispute

A dispute over pruning a quince tree branch in the Tekkeköy district of Samsun resulted in the death of a 73-year-old man. The incident occurred on the evening of August 11 in the Yağbasan neighborhood.

Mustafa Çam, a 46-year-old man who had returned from France to harvest hazelnuts, reportedly engaged in a heated argument with his uncle, İbrahim Çam, and his cousin, Recep Çam, regarding the cutting of a tree branch. According to statements, the confrontation escalated, involving verbal insults and physical tension.

Mustafa Çam claimed in his statement to authorities that he acted in self-defense after his uncle fired a weapon at him, noting he sustained a graze to his leg. However, the altercation led to İbrahim Çam being shot and critically injured. He passed away while being transported to the hospital in a private vehicle.

Following his arrest by the gendarmerie, Mustafa Çam was referred to the courthouse and subsequently arrested by the court, being sent to the Samsun T Type Closed Prison.
