Mehmet Muş lectures on global inequality at Samsun University
Samsun University (SAMÜ) held a ceremony to mark the opening of the 2026-2027 academic year at its Ballıca Campus. During the event, Mehmet Muş, an AK Party Samsun Deputy and Chairman of the TBMM Plan and Budget Commission, was awarded an honorary doctorate.
As part of the opening, Muş delivered the first lecture of the academic year on the topic of ‘Global Income Inequality’. He highlighted the widening gap between wealth and production, noting that the richest 1.5% of the world's adult population holds 50% of global wealth, while the poorest 42% holds only 0.6% of the market share. He also noted that the global debt stock reached 365 trillion dollars in the first half of 2026.
University Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Aydın discussed the institution's growth since its founding in 2018, reporting a current staff of 890 and over 9,000 students. He also detailed the environmental benefits of the Ballıca Campus transformation, which involved repurposing industrial tobacco hangars rather than demolishing them, thereby avoiding the production of approximately 240,000 tons of construction waste.
