Samsun Veterinary Control Institute monitors animal diseases in nine provinces
The Samsun Veterinary Control Institute is conducting intensive diagnostic and control operations for animal diseases across nine Turkish provinces, including Samsun, Giresun, Ordu, Sinop, Amasya, Tokat, Sivas, Çorum, and Yozgat. Under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the institute analyzes more than 50,000 samples annually to ensure livestock sustainability and protect public health.
Director Hamza Kadı noted that the facility utilizes specialized laboratories for virology, bacteriology, pathology, parasitology, and more. The institute has implemented advanced methods such as PCR-based molecular testing and ELISA serological screenings. Recent advancements include the establishment of a Spiroket Laboratory for diagnosing diseases like leptospirosis and the use of wastewater epidemiology to detect biological risks before clinical symptoms appear in animals.
The institute also focuses on monitoring zoonotic diseases that pose risks to humans, such as rabies, anthrax, brucellosis, tuberculosis, and avian influenza. Its laboratory results hold international validity due to accreditation by TÜRKAK under the 17025 standard.
