Samsung adds battery‑protection shield icon to Android UI, previews One UI 9.5

Samsung’s recent One UI updates introduce a small shield icon in the battery status bar. The icon signals that the Battery Protection feature is active, automatically regulating charging to limit stress on lithium‑ion cells and extend battery lifespan. Users can view the setting under Settings → Battery → Battery Protection.

The company is also preparing the next interface version, One UI 9.5. A build for the US‑spec Galaxy S27 Ultra (code S958USQU0AZH3) was spotted on Samsung’s internal servers, following the pattern of earlier incremental releases such as One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy S26 series. The rollout is expected later, possibly by the end of 2026, after the current focus on finalising One UI 9 for newer foldable devices.
