Samsung and LG advance residential heat pump technology for carbon neutrality

Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are advancing residential carbon neutrality strategies by replacing fossil-fuel-based boilers with high-efficiency heat pump systems. During the Korea Green Transformation (K-GX) Strategy National Report Meeting, both companies detailed plans to electrify heating and cooling while integrating solar power, energy storage systems (ESS), and smart energy management platforms.

Samsung Electronics is promoting its ‘EHS All-in-One’ solution, which uses a single outdoor unit to provide cooling, floor heating, and hot water. This system is designed to fit the limited outdoor space of Korean apartments and utilizes heat recovery technology to improve efficiency. Samsung aims to establish a domestic supply base by 2027 and expand into global markets, including Europe, by 2030.

LG Electronics is focusing on an energy-independent residential model, exemplified by its ‘Smart Cottage’ concept. This model connects heat pumps with home energy management systems (HEMS) and solar power to optimize energy consumption. LG is currently conducting pilot programs in Jeju to demonstrate the electrification of heating and hot water in apartment complexes, aiming to develop a ‘boiler-less apartment’ model for public and private housing.
