AI infrastructure demand drives surge in memory semiconductor markets
The rapid expansion of AI infrastructure is driving a significant surge in demand for memory semiconductors, particularly High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), server DRAM, and enterprise SSDs (eSSD). Analysts from KB Securities project that the share of memory semiconductors in AI infrastructure investment will grow from 14% last year to 57% by next year, with total hyperscaler AI investment expected to reach $1.3 trillion in 2027.
This demand has led to a tightening supply chain. Memory inventories for major manufacturers Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have reportedly fallen to less than 10 days in the third quarter. The NAND flash market has also seen rapid growth, with global revenue increasing by 70% quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter of 2026, supported by a 55% rise in prices. Samsung and SK Hynix together hold nearly half of the global NAND market share.
In the DRAM sector, ChangXin Storage has increased its market share to 10%, positioning itself as a major global player. Meanwhile, companies like Micron are aggressively expanding HBM production capacity to meet the needs of AI processors, such as NVIDIA's upcoming platforms. The shift from AI training to inference is further accelerating the need for high-capacity storage solutions like eSSDs.
