Samsung and SK Hynix unveil $870 bn semiconductor expansion plan impacting Vietnam

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix announced a joint investment of 1.350 quadrillion won (about US$870 billion) to expand semiconductor manufacturing, AI data‑center capacity and advanced memory production over the next decade. The plan includes building four to five state‑of‑the‑art fabs, expanding DRAM and NAND output, and deploying cutting‑edge equipment such as EUV lithography. Backed by the South Korean government, the goal is to double memory capacity within five years and accelerate roll‑out of new facilities to as early as 2033.

In parallel, Samsung pledged to strengthen support for Vietnamese firms in the global supply chain, focusing on brand building, market intelligence, technology access and compliance with international standards. The initiative aims to raise the competitiveness of Vietnam’s manufacturers and integrate them further into high‑value tech and AI value chains.
