Samsung begins global rollout of One UI 9 based on Android 17

Samsung has begun the global rollout of One UI 9, a new operating system based on Android 17. The update is being deployed in stages, initially targeting the Galaxy S26 series, followed by the Galaxy S25 series, and recent foldable models such as the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7.

A major focus of the update is the expansion of Galaxy AI capabilities. New features include My FanCam for intelligent subject tracking during video recording, Now Nudge for conversational suggestions, and enhanced tools for note-taking, translation, and photo editing. Samsung has noted that while basic Galaxy AI features are currently free, future advanced services may require a subscription.

Security is also a primary pillar of the update. One UI 9 introduces on-device AI-powered Privacy Alerts, which monitor for unnecessary permission requests and potential security breaches locally on the hardware to enhance user privacy without relying on cloud servers. The update package is approximately 4 GB in size. Users are advised to ensure sufficient storage and battery levels before initiating the installation.
