Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong attends memorial for late Chairman Lee Kun-hee

Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong attended a memorial service for the late Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee at the family burial site in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, on October 23. The ceremony, marking the sixth anniversary of the former chairman's passing, was held two days ahead of the official anniversary on October 25 because the date falls on a Sunday.

In attendance were family members, including former Leeum Museum director Hong Ra-hee, Hotel Shilla President Lee Boo-jin, and Samsung C&T President Lee Seo-hyun, alongside approximately 150 current and former Samsung executives. Following the memorial, Chairman Lee held a luncheon with the executive leadership team at the Samsung Human Resources Development Center in Yongin.

The event comes as Samsung's semiconductor business achieves record-breaking performance, with recent quarterly operating profits reaching 100 trillion won. This success has brought renewed attention to the late Chairman Lee's management philosophy, specifically his 1974 decision to invest personal funds into the semiconductor industry and his 1993 ‘New Management’ declaration, which shifted the company's focus from quantitative growth to quality and technological innovation.
