Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong inspects robotics R&D center

Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited the company’s Seoul R&D campus to inspect the Robot Experience (RX) business division. This marks his first visit to the department since its establishment in July, signaling a strategic push to establish robotics as a core growth engine.

Samsung is preparing to showcase humanoid robot technologies at CES 2027, including advancements in humanoid arms and dexterous hands. The RX division, led by DX Division Head TM Roh, is tasked with integrating the company’s robotics research, setting long-term strategies, and driving commercialization.

The company plans to deploy robots first within its own semiconductor, smartphone, and home appliance manufacturing plants to improve efficiency and test reliability. The long-term goal is to transform global factories into AI-driven autonomous facilities by 2030. Samsung is also exploring the use of its internal ecosystem—including solid-state batteries, AI chips, sensors, and OLED panels—to support its robotics roadmap. To accelerate development, the company may pursue investments or acquisitions of overseas firms specializing in mechanical hands and locomotion technology.
