Samsung C&T retains top spot in South Korea's 2026 construction capability ranking

South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport released the 2026 construction capability evaluation covering 84.1% of the sector's firms (7,043,332 of 8,084,424). Samsung C&T Corp. remained the clear leader for the 13th consecutive year, posting an evaluation amount of 34.8785 trillion won. Hyundai Engineering & Construction held second place with 18.2714 trillion won, while GS Engineering & Construction rose to third with 11.668 trillion won, re‑forming the industry’s “big three.”

Hoban Construction stayed at rank 12 for the third year, recording an evaluation amount of 3.4029 trillion won. Hoban Industry improved to rank 30 with 1.4693 trillion won. The rankings, which assess past project performance, financial health, technical ability and reliability, will be used from August 1 for bid qualification, contractor selection, credit rating and guarantee reviews.

The evaluation also listed sector‑specific leaders: Hyundai Engineering topped the civil‑construction segment, Daewoo Engineering led dam projects, and Samsung E&A led industrial‑environmental facilities. These results guide public and private project owners in choosing qualified construction partners.
