Samsung C&T and Türkiye partner in global nuclear energy developments

Samsung C&T has entered a strategic partnership with US-based nuclear startup Kairos Power to advance small modular reactor (SMR) technology. The agreement includes up to $100 million in combined equity investment and engineering services to support the development and commercialization of the Hermes 2 demonstration reactor in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This 50 MW reactor, which utilizes fluoride salt-cooled high-temperature technology, is intended to supply clean energy to Google's data centers in Tennessee and Alabama.

Simultaneously, Türkiye and the United States have signed a cooperation agreement to evaluate next-generation nuclear technologies. Through an initiative between the Türkiye Nuclear Energy Company (TÜNAŞ) and the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), a $2 million technical study will assess the feasibility of US-designed SMRs and fourth-generation reactors in Türkiye. The study will examine technical, economic, and regulatory aspects to support Türkiye's goal of diversifying its energy mix and achieving net-zero emissions by 2053.
