Samsung develops color microdisplays for future smart glasses

Samsung is reportedly developing a two-phase roadmap for smart glasses, moving from audio-centric models to advanced augmented reality hardware. The first phase, known as Galaxy Glasses ‘Jinju’, is expected to launch around July 2026. These glasses will lack a visual display, focusing instead on audio output, a 12 MP camera, and integration with Google’s Gemini assistant. They are expected to feature designs from partners like Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, with prices starting at approximately $379.

The second phase, referred to as Galaxy Glasses ‘Haean’, is slated for a 2027 or early 2028 release. Unlike the Jinju model, the Haean glasses are expected to feature integrated color microdisplays developed by Samsung Display. These ultra-small panels, potentially 0.2 inches or smaller, aim to provide a wide field of view to display text, notifications, icons, and navigation arrows. This move positions Samsung to compete directly with products like the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.
