Samsung Display Restarts 67 Trillion Won OLED Plant in Asan, Korea

Samsung Display announced that it will immediately resume the 67 trillion‑won expansion of its OLED production at the Asan (Yasan) second campus in South Korea. The project, first started in 2017 and halted in 2020 due to market uncertainty, will add a new IT OLED line and upgrade existing facilities to support laptops, tablets, foldable phones and XR devices.

The company’s CEO, Lee Chung, said the move fulfills a prior public commitment and is intended to keep Samsung ahead in OLED technology despite intense competition from Chinese panel makers. He warned that "chip inflation" – higher semiconductor prices spurred by AI‑driven demand – is creating severe price pressure on smartphones and other IT products, which could dampen demand for OLED panels in the second half of 2026. Samsung Display expressed confidence that its new 8.6‑generation IT OLED line is on track for mass production.
