Samsung Display to lead foldable screen market with 66% share
Foldable smartphone display shipments are projected to increase by 44% in 2026, reaching approximately 29 million units, according to research from Omdia. This growth is driven by a shift toward wider-screen designs, such as 4:3 and 14:10 aspect ratios, which aim to enhance multitasking and productivity capabilities.
Samsung Display is expected to dominate the sector, capturing 66% of the global foldable display market. This leadership position is bolstered by securing supply contracts for both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Apple’s upcoming iPhone Duo. While Chinese manufacturers have seen declining domestic demand and shrinking market shares, the entry of Apple into the foldable segment is expected to legitimize the format for a broader consumer base.
Omdia analysts anticipate that wide-screen foldable panels will account for 44% of total foldable shipments in 2026, a figure expected to exceed 60% in 2027 as more Chinese manufacturers adopt the format.
