Samsung Display unveils world-first 2K 165Hz OLED smartphone panel

Samsung Display has announced the development of a world-first 6.9-inch smartphone OLED panel that simultaneously achieves 2K resolution and a 165Hz high refresh rate. This new technology is designed to meet the growing demand for high-performance gaming smartphones by providing smooth screen transitions and high-definition visuals.

The panel utilizes M16 organic materials and LEAD 2.0 technology, which removes the polarizing layer to improve efficiency. Key technical specifications include a peak brightness of 10,000 nits (at 1% On Pixel Ratio) and a global peak brightness of 2,800 nits in high-brightness mode. Additionally, the display features LTPO technology with a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 165Hz and a 30% reduction in power consumption compared to previous generations.

Samsung Display will supply these panels to Vivo’s premium gaming brand, iQOO, for the upcoming iQOO 16 smartphone. The company aims to maintain its technological leadership in the premium mobile market against increasing competition from Chinese display manufacturers.
